The picture was "taken from outside the venue at the time of the attack", Scotland Yard said.

Two men, in their 20s and 30s, were assaulted outside the Two Brewers bar in Clapham on Sunday evening and taken to hospital.

They have since been discharged.

It is "vital" that officers "identify and locate" the person in the picture as soon as possible, said Detective Chief Inspector Jivan Saib.

"I am asking the public to look at this image and see if they recognise this individual," he added.

Officers have "collated witness accounts and scoured CCTV for evidence", Mr Saib continued.

"I appreciate those who have come forward and spoken to police but would ask that if you were in the area and saw these events unfold, but have yet to contact us, then please do so."

In a statement on Instagram one of the victims - who posted a picture showing the top of his head wrapped in a bandage - said he was not sad or angry but had "been left (with) so many questions".

The man, who goes by Aniello on his Instagram profile, added: "What can lead to changing a person's mind that much that they feel it's okay to attack anyone, whatever their reasons?"

He has also been wondering "how we change that".

However, he said the experience had "strengthened" something in him and made him realise he "could never, and have never been, prouder, happier and more comforted by the community I am lucky enough to have as my LGBTQ+ family!"

He also thanked family and friends who have got in touch "just to check on me".

The Two Brewers has thanked people for their "very kind messages of support and solidarity".

It added: "Our continuous thoughts are with the victims of this horrific attack.

"For now, it's business as usual. We won't let this cruel attack grind us down - let's keep spreading the love!"
