Tina Satchwell: Husband appears in court after being charged with murder of wife in Ireland

October 14, 2023

Richard Satchwell has appeared in an Irish court after being charged with the murder of his wife, Tina Satchwell.

His appearance at Cashel District Court in County Tipperary on Saturday came after officers discovered skeletal remains buried beneath a home in Youghal, County Cork, on Wednesday after searching the property for a day.

It is understood police are now satisfied the remains are those of Mrs Satchwell, who was 45 when she went missing in March 2017.

Her husband, 57, was arrested on Friday evening and charged with murder shortly after, police said.

Satchwell has been remanded in custody to appear at Clonmel District Court at 10.30am on Tuesday 17 October.

Defence solicitor Eddie Burke made an application for legal aid on behalf of Satchwell, which Judge Miriam Walsh granted.

The court was told Satchwell is not working.

Mr Burke also asked that the accused should receive medical attention on entry into prison and Judge Walsh said she would make that recommendation.

Police in County Cork used a digger and other heavy machinery during the search of the house earlier this week.

Since the discovery, a screen was erected outside the grounds of the property, with people laying flowers in memory of Ms Satchwell.

A second search also took place at another location between Youghal and Killeagh in County Cork, the Irish police said.
