'Absolutely disgusting': Nazi protesters wave swastika flags outside Disney World

June 13, 2023

A group of Nazi protesters have been condemned after they waved giant swastika flags outside Disney World in Florida.

Footage posted on social media showed the group holding the flags outside the resort in Orlando, Florida.

A sign featuring an image of Ron DeSantis was also on display and a "DeSantis 2024 Make America Florida" flag in support of the Republican's presidential campaign.

There is no suggestion Mr DeSantis was connected to the protest.

Florida Representative Anna Vishkaee Eskamani, who posted footage of the protest on social media, wrote: "Nazis outside of Walt Disney World right now - absolutely disgusting."

Abigail Disney, the granddaughter of Walt Disney Company co-founder Roy Disney, shared the video, writing: "My grandfather is spinning in his grave."

Pop star Pink also shared the footage, writing: "ARE YOU F****** KIDDING ME????!!!!!!!!!"

Shannon Watts, founder of the grassroots movement Moms Demand Action, said "two dozen white supremacists" were outside the main Disney World entrance "marching with signs featuring Gov DeSantis's face, swastikas, the n-word and homophobic slurs".

According to USA Today, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said about 15 people had gathered outside the theme park during the incident on Saturday.

Authorities said the protest was disbanded after about two hours and no arrests were made.

The sheriff's office said in a statement: "We are aware of these groups that aim to agitate and incite people with antisemitic symbols and slurs. They are also aware of the law.

"The Orange County Sheriff's Office deplores hate speech in any form, but people have the First Amendment right to demonstrate."

The Walt Disney Company announced last month it was scrapping plans to build a new campus in central Florida following a year-long dispute with Mr DeSantis.

The Florida governor has been attacking the company after it opposed a state law banning classroom lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in early years.
