The 28-year-old used the app to track and slow down the vehicle as police pursued it after it had been stolen from a home in Australia's capital Canberra, ABC reported, citing court documents.

The broadcaster said the documents allege a man pointed a gun at Kyrgios's mother, Norlaila Kyrgios, and demanded she hand over the keys for the car.

She called out to her son, who was nearby, then phoned a police emergency number as soon as the man drove away in the car.

The police chase ended when the car entered a school zone. A man was arrested soon after.

A 32-year-old man has been denied bail after appearing in the Australian Capital Territory Magistrates' Court on five charges relating to the incident, including aggravated robbery, driving a stolen vehicle, furious driving, and failing to stop for police.

Kyrgios reached the final at Wimbledon and the US Open quarter finals last year, but has not played a competitive match at the elite level since he withdrew from a tournament in Japan last October because of a knee injury.

In February, he avoided a conviction after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Chiara Passari.

Kyrgios admitted he pushed her to the ground during a row in Canberra in January 2021.

His lawyer told a court in the Australian capital it was an act of "stupidity" and "frustration", while a psychologist said he had suffered severe depression, suicidal thoughts and insomnia in the past.
