Cody Fisher killing: Two men found guilty of murdering footballer at nightclub

March 15, 2024

Two men have been found guilty of murdering a semi-professional footballer who was fatally stabbed on a nightclub dancefloor in Birmingham.

Remy Gordon, 23, and Kami Carpenter, 22, killed Cody Fisher in a knife attack on Boxing Day 2022 in an "awful revenge" after a minor altercation two days earlier, the city's crown court was told.

Mr Fisher had made brief "unavoidable" contact with Mr Gordon's back while leaving a club in Solihull on Christmas Eve, jurors heard.

The 23-year-old, a former Birmingham City academy member from Redditch who also played for Stratford Town and Bromsgrove Sporting, was stabbed in the chest at Digbeth's Crane nightclub on 26 December 2022 and died at the scene from a chest wound.

Mr Fisher was attacked with a weapon smuggled through security into the club before a pre-planned "act of retribution", a 10-week trial heard.

Witnesses described Gordon and Carpenter approaching Mr Fisher on the dancefloor and immediately being aggressive towards him and attacking him.

Gordon and Carpenter had blamed each other for stabbing Mr Fisher.

The victim's family told Sky News they were "broken" by their loss, with Mr Fisher's mother, Tracey, describing how she was handed a "life sentence" on the day he died.

The nightclub was subsequently closed down after Birmingham City Council permanently removed its operating licence.

Carpenter, of no fixed address, and Gordon, of Birmingham, had denied the charges of murder and affray.

Gordon was also found guilty of affray, while Carpenter was found not guilty of the same charge at the Crane, relating to an attack on a friend of Mr Fisher.

Fellow defendant Reegan Anderson, 19, of no fixed address, was found not guilty of murder and not guilty of an alternative charge of manslaughter.

But he was found guilty of affray and was bailed until a sentencing hearing after Easter.
