Thousands of illegal vapes have been discovered in a disused World War Two bunker, according to officials.

Specially-trained tobacco and vape detection dogs found the items in a back garden during a search of a shop in Swansea.

Swansea Council has said an investigation is under way after the discovery of the vapes which have a street value of more than £47,000.

Large quantities of counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco were also unearthed.

A second operation in the city centre led to the seizure of large quantities of "illegal tobacco and vapes" stored in a "purpose-built hidden compartment within a shop".

The council said the latest operations were part of its crackdown on the sale of illegal vapes.

Trading standards officers from the city recently unearthed more than £1.5m of illegal vapes at a storage facility in London.

Rhys Harries, from trading standards at Swansea Council, said information from consumers was helping to "track down businesses in the city that are selling illegal vapes and tobacco".

"We've had an extremely busy time investigating a number of cases and have been successful in prosecuting a number of people in recent months," he added.

"Our latest discoveries illustrate the lengths people are going to, to try and hide these illegal products and so we are trying to stay one step ahead and use our knowledge and skills to find them."
