William Murray McCubbin, 60, died in hospital following the incident near to Port William in Dumfries and Galloway on 19 November 2022.

On Friday, Police Scotland confirmed a 48-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A force spokesperson added: "A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

Mr McCubbin, from Annan, was known to his loved ones as Murray.

A statement from Mr McCubbin's family, issued by lawyers Digby Brown, said: "We welcome the update in the criminal investigation as it brings us closer to learning the truth about what happened at sea that day."

His family added: "The loss of Murray is something that shattered our family. He was a loving partner, father and papa and there is not a day that goes by where we don't think of him.

"We would like to thank our friends and family for their support over the last 16 months, but we now request that our privacy is respected as we await the outcome of the criminal investigation."
