Klare Brookfield, the daughter-in-law of David Brookfield, told Sky News he is the "heart of [their] family".

North Wales Police said the 65-year-old was last seen in the Carneddau area of Eryri (also known as Snowdonia) on 9 January.

Ms Brookfield said the "well-experienced walker", who ran his own walking group, planned to walk up Carnedd Llewelyn and then Carnedd Dafydd.

His wife received a text message from him to say he had reached the summit of Carnedd Llewelyn.

The family believe he was on his way to Carnedd Dafydd, but that text message was the last time they heard from him.

"We are all devastated. He is a much loved dad, grandfather, great-grandad and brother. We just need to find him," Ms Brookfield said.

He had recently retired from his job as a transport and warehouse manager and had been "looking forward to many adventures with his wife Lesley in their campervan", she said.

"It's been six weeks now, police are still searching with drones and family are also helping with the search, it's heartbreaking," she added.

North Wales Police say multi-agency searches have been carried out and that they continue to provide support for Mr Brookfield's family.

Earlier this month, the force made a fresh appeal for information with images of Mr Brookfield - including one of him with his large backpack.

Officers have appealed for any walkers who may have come across the backpack to get in touch.
