Emergency services were alerted to the human remains in the Margaret Drive area of Motherwell at around 9am on Saturday.

Witnesses told The Scottish Sun the body appeared to have been set on fire and the charred remains were discovered by a passer-by.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said the man's "death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances".

Officers remain at the scene while investigations continue.
