February 25, 2024

Police searching for a missing teenager have found a body in Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire.

Officers were called at 9.30pm on Saturday to reports that three boys, believed to be around 17, were in the water.

Two managed to get out and were taken to hospital after being assessed by paramedics.

Search teams and the local fire service were looking for the third boy, but Staffordshire Police said a teenager's body had been found just after 5pm on Sunday.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"This is a tragic case and one which I know will cause a great deal of sorrow in the local community," said Chief Inspector Mark Barlow,

"Our priority now is about making sure we can do everything possible to support the boy's family."

Rudyard Lake, northeast of Stoke-on-Trent, is more than 2.5 miles long and covers 168 acres. It's a popular spot for activities such as walking, fishing and kayaking.
