Daniel Khalife: Woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender after alleged prison escape

February 02, 2024

A woman has been arrested in connection with terror suspect Daniel Khalife's alleged escape from prison.

Detectives investigating the ex-soldier's alleged flight from HMP Wandsworth have arrested a 25-year-old woman at an address in east London, according to the Metropolitan Police.

She was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been bailed until April.

It follows the arrest of a 24-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender last month.

Khalife, 21, is said to have escaped from the London prison on 6 September last year.

He is said to have been working in the prison kitchen and wearing a cook's uniform when he allegedly used bedsheets to strap himself under a food truck to make his getaway.

Police said Khalife was arrested on a canal towpath on 9 September after being pulled off a push bike by a plain-clothes officer.

He has pleaded not guilty to a charge of escape.

At the time of the alleged offence, he was on remand at HMP Wandsworth awaiting trial on three charges.

He is accused of leaving fake bombs at a military base, a charge under the Terrorism Act, and another under the Official Secrets Act, which alleges he committed "an act prejudicial to the safety or interests of the state".

Detective Chief Superintendent Gareth Rees, head of operations for the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said: "We continue to carry out a thorough investigation into the full circumstances of the alleged escape of Khalife, and we have now arrested two other people as part of this.

"I know there continues to be a great deal of interest in this case, but I must remind the public that Khalife is awaiting trial.

"It is, therefore, extremely important that people do not report, comment upon or share information which could in any way prejudice the future court proceedings."
