January 30, 2024

Two women died and a baby was taken to hospital following a fire in Aberdeen.

Emergency services were called to a block of flats in the city's Back Hilton Road at around 6pm on Monday.

Police Scotland said two women were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said a further five casualties were treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Police said the baby was taken to hospital as a "precaution" and was later discharged, and four people were treated at the scene by ambulance staff.

SFRS mobilised seven appliances and two specialist units after the alarm was raised.

The blaze was said to have occurred on the first floor of the block of flats.

Neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution and the road was closed as crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

SFRS said it left the scene shortly after 9pm.
