He was 14 when he stabbed Rohan Shand in the chest in a "revenge" attack in Northampton in March.

The trial heard Rohan, known as Fred, was targeted after one of his killer's friends was hurt in an altercation between schoolboys outside a McDonald's the day before.

His killer was found guilty in August, but can't legally be named because he's under 18.

"This was a horrendous attack in broad daylight on the streets of Northampton," Mr Justice Morris said during sentencing on Thursday.

"I find you intended to cause serious bodily injury," the judge told the boy.

"This was a brazen and shocking attack leading to the senseless death of a young man."

The trial also heard how the boy stabbed 16-year-old Rohan after riding to the scene in Harborough Road on an electric scooter with another teenager.

He was caught on camera wearing a balaclava, while the other boy had on a surgical mask.

The other defendant, now 17, was found not guilty of murder and received an 18-month youth rehabilitation order for possessing a knife different to the murder weapon.

Rohan, a student at Kingsthorpe College, was stabbed once and pronounced dead at the scene on 22 March.
