Edinburgh: Two people injured after crane collapses and smashes into building in Leith

Two people were injured after a crane collapsed and smashed into a building at a construction site in Edinburgh.

The arm of the crane crashed into the under-construction building in Steads Place, Leith, at around 9.30am on Tuesday.

The Scottish Ambulance Service sent two ambulances and its special operations team (SORT) to the scene and treated two patients at the construction site.

The emergency service initially reported that it had taken a patient to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Videos posted on X, formerly Twitter, show the jib of the crane lying on top of the building.

Emergency services remain at the scene with closures in place at Leith Walk and Pilrig Street.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.30am on Tuesday 28 November 2023 we received a report that a crane collapsed at a building site in Steads Place in Edinburgh.

"[Emergency services] are in attendance.

"There are road closures in place at Leith Walk and Pilrig Street."
