November 27, 2023

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information in their search for a missing rape suspect who vanished a year and a half ago.

James Clacher was reported missing to Police Scotland after he was last seen in the Airdrie area of North Lanarkshire on Monday 30 May 2022.

His car, a Suzuki Swift, was recovered from the Loch Long car park in Arrochar, Argyll and Bute, the following day.

At the time, police said the 55-year-old was a "keen walker and covers large distances".

Mr Clacher, from Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, was due to stand trial accused of raping two women. The case has since been put on ice due to his disappearance.

Police are warning members of the public not to approach Mr Clacher if they see him, but to contact the force if they have any information as to his whereabouts.
