Motorcyclist speeding at 150mph caught out by his own dashcam footage

A motorcyclist riding at 150mph along an Essex road was caught out by his own dashcam footage.

Jack Godfrey, from Basildon, was slapped with 200 hours of community service and banned from driving for 12 months after admitting dangerous driving.

The 24-year-old was caught on 15 July riding his "superbike" on the A130 by a road policing officer, after being initially followed because the letters on his registration plate were too small.

Officers then saw him undertaking vehicles at high speed before he pulled onto the road where he was ultimately caught.

After he was stopped, the officer noticed he had been using a dashcam and suspected it had captured his driving - so seized the memory card.

Upon review by police, the dashcam had captured the rider's earlier journeys, where he had been driving at more than 150mph while overtaking, and was even seen performing a wheelie while passing other vehicles.

Constable Danny Wheeler, who led the investigation, said: "There is no doubt that the rider drove in a dangerous manner that day, using the public roads of Chelmsford as a racetrack with no consideration for himself and the safety of other road users.

"The footage was horrific, so much so that during interview, the rider admitted that even he was shocked by it and admitted he'd been foolish."
