Second suspect appears in court over murder of Alastair Campbell in Renfrew

A second suspect has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Renfrewshire.

Alastair Campbell, 52, died after he was found seriously injured in a common close of flats on Renfield Street, Renfrew, at around 3am on 30 October.

On Tuesday, Police Scotland confirmed a 35-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with Mr Campbell's death.

Brian Reilly, from Renfrew, has been accused of murder and attempted robbery.

He made no plea to the charges when he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Last week, James Cook, 47, was also charged with murder and attempted robbery in connection with the incident when he appeared at the same court on Friday.

He also made no plea or declaration and was committed for further examination and remanded in custody pending his next appearance.

Reilly has been remanded in custody and is due back in the dock within the next eight days.
