October 18, 2023

A woman died after choking at a marshmallow eating competition, an inquest has heard.

Natalie Louise Buss, 37, was at a charity event at Beddau RFC in Rhondda Cynon Taf on 7 October.

South Wales Police said emergency services were called to the rugby club at around 11pm.

The inquest opening on Wednesday heard Ms Buss had taken part in a competition to fit the most marshmallows in people's mouths.

She later left the stage and collapsed in the corridor area where she appeared to be choking.

CPR was started until paramedics arrived, but despite best efforts, Ms Buss was declared dead at the scene.

Her provisional cause of death is pending further investigation.

Beddau Rugby Club previously said in a statement that it, and the wider community, were "heartbroken".

Ms Buss was described as "a very dear friend" who would be "sadly missed".

The statement went on to say she was a "wonderful wife, mother and daughter".

It added the club would be "on hand" to support her family, friends and the wider community.

Several neighbouring clubs sent messages of condolences to the community in the days after Ms Buss's death.
