Rachel Bright: Metropolitan Police sergeant appears in court over alleged sexual assault of woman

October 10, 2023

A police officer has appeared in court charged with the alleged sexual assault of a woman.

Metropolitan Police Sergeant Rachel Bright is accused of touching a woman without her consent in Wandsworth, south London, in December, while she was off duty.

The 45-year-old confirmed her details and said at a preliminary hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court in southwest London on Tuesday that she would plead not guilty to the offence.

Bright, of Buckland Way, Worcester Park in Surrey, was charged via a postal court summons in mid-September. The Met has said she is suspended from duty.

District Judge Devinder Sandhu granted bail provided she does not contact the complainant.

Bright, who works in the force's South West Command Unit, is next due to appear at Kingston Crown Court next month.
