A woman has been charged with murder after a man in his 60s was stabbed to death in what police are calling a "race hate crime".

The victim, from Easton in Bristol, died from a stab wound after being attacked in Grosvenor Road, St Paul's, on Friday afternoon. He was described by police as a "familiar and popular figure" in the area.

Avon and Somerset Police said: "His family are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.

"The Major Crime Investigation Team is leading the inquiry and treating it as a race hate crime. The family has been offered assistance by Sari (Stand Against Racism & Inequality)."

Christina Howell, 36, from Easton, is due to appear before Bristol Magistrates' Court on Monday.
