A man has been charged in connection with the death of a father-of-four in Aberdeenshire.

Rodney Shaw, 50, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday accused of culpable homicide.

Emergency services responded to a report of an alleged disturbance in the Broomhill Road area of Stonehaven at around 10.40am on Tuesday.

David McGuinness, 30, from Inverurie, was subsequently taken to hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.

On Wednesday, Police Scotland said a man had been arrested and charged with assault in connection with the incident.

Following Mr McGuinness' death, his family released a statement via Police Scotland.

They said: "David was a much-loved son, partner, brother, uncle and doting father to his four young children.

"He will be sorely missed every day by all who knew him.

"The family are absolutely devastated by what has happened and would like privacy at this difficult time."
