A 10-year-old boy who was electrocuted at a hotel in Blackpool has died.

He was found unresponsive at Tiffany's Hotel on the Promenade on Sunday evening and taken to hospital with injuries suggesting he had come into contact with a "high voltage" of electricity.

He died in hospital on Thursday.

Police said the family were at his bedside and their "thoughts are with them at this time".

Tiffany's Hotel said in a statement that it will voluntarily close while the police investigate and their own inspections take place.

"We are heartbroken by the news we have received today, and our thoughts and prayers remain with the family at this distressing time," the hotel said.

"The safety and comfort of our guests remains our number one priority. Our phone lines remain open."

It said it will continue to provide the relevant authorities any assistance they need to carry out their investigations.

The hotel is described as a "stone's throw from the bright lights and all the Blackpool attractions," on its website.
