The collision happened at around 1.35am today at Corran Esplanade on the A85 in Oban, Argyll and Bute.

The 39-year-old man was treated at the scene and then taken to the town's Lorn and Islands Hospital, the Scottish Ambulance Service said.

Another ambulance attended the emergency call.

The road remains closed westbound while an investigation is carried out.

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Archie McGuire said: "We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision and would urge anyone who may have any information to come forward.

"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area."

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed the ambulance was responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision.

A spokesperson added: "Our thoughts are with all of those affected by the incident."
