Dyfed-Powys Police said it was called on Friday afternoon to reports a man had gone into the water to rescue two children and not come out.

Officers attended Sgwd y Pannwr waterfall in Ystradfellte after they were called to the incident at around 4.40pm.

The body of 27-year-old Mohananeethan Muruganantharaja was discovered shortly after 7pm by the fire service.

There was a multi-agency response with the mountain rescue, Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and both the UK Air Rescue Team and the Wales Air Ambulance in attendance.

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed to Sky News that the children were both safe following the incident.

The waterfall which lies in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, also known as the Brecon Beacons, is around 12 metres high.

The site, part of the park's Four Falls Trail, is popular with walkers and photographers.

Police said recovery of Mr Muruganantharaja's body was not possible on Friday evening due to conditions.

Specialist divers were brought in on Saturday morning and his body was recovered.

Mr Muruganantharaja's family have released an image of him, along with the words, "our deepest condolences".

His family are being supported by specialist officers, police confirmed.
