September 03, 2023

Two people have died following a "series of collisions" in Coventry on Sunday.

West Midlands Police were called to Gosford Street in the city at around 8am after they received reports two pedestrians and a cyclist were seriously injured.

A 44-year-old pedestrian who was struck in Gosford Street and a cyclist who was struck in Woodway Lane have died.

Another pedestrian has been treated for injuries and police said those are not believed to be life-threatening.

The drones team and dog unit joined officers in a search for the suspect.

Police said a man made off after the car collided with a house in Beckbury Road.

A 33-year-old man was located in the road at around 9am and is being questioned in connection with the collisions.

The force says Gosford Street, Woodway Lane and surrounding areas will remain closed as the investigation into the circumstances of the collisions continues.

Superintendent Ronan Tyrer, from Coventry Local Policing Area, said the force's thoughts were with the families of those involved during a "truly devastating time".

"We are still in the very early stages of our investigations and we have several scenes across Coventry which also means that some roads will be closed for a considerable time," he said.

Police have asked anyone who has any information which could help the investigation to get in touch.
