The baby boy was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital in an "unresponsive" state on 27 July, where he later died, police said.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing and allowing the death of a child and child neglect.

Both men have been released on conditional bail.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said officers were called to the hospital at 7.15pm on 27 July, but "very sadly, the baby boy was pronounced deceased a short time later".

He added: "An investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the baby boy's death.

"A Home Office post mortem examination has taken place.

"The cause of the baby's death is awaiting further investigation."
