A suspect has been charged following the alleged murder of a 37-year-old man in Inverclyde.

Emergency services were called to Angus Road in Greenock after reports of a disturbance involving three men at about 9.50pm on Sunday.

The men were taken to hospital, with the 37-year-old pronounced dead a short time later.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out, however Police Scotland said the death is being treated as murder.

The force said the man's next of kin have been informed.

Detective Inspector Ally Semple said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

"I would like to reassure the local community that we believe this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider community.

"Extensive police inquiries are ongoing, and we have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation."

Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage in the area and are carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

DI Semple added: "I am appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch."
