Emergency services were called to Garrowhill railway station after the alarm was raised about two casualties on the tracks at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

The man and the toddler were taken to the city's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The man remains in a serious condition, while the child's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating what happened and wish to speak to any witnesses who are yet to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Garrowhill station shortly before 7.30pm on 2 July following reports of two casualties on the tracks.

"Officers attended and two people - an adult man and a two-year-old child - were taken to hospital where they both remain.

"Both people sustained injuries from being hit by a train.

"The child's injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening, and the man remains in a serious condition.

"Detectives are investigating the full circumstances of the incident and believe there were a number of people on the platform at the time who may have witnessed what happened.

"Anyone who witnessed what happened and hasn't already spoken to police is urged to contact BTP."
