Elizabeth Watson: Death of 'much-loved' grandmother treated as murder - as man charged

June 29, 2023

A man has been charged over the murder of a "much-loved" grandmother in Aberdeenshire, police say.

Officers were called to a house in Catto Drive, Peterhead, on Tuesday evening following a report of concern for Elizabeth Watson.

The 58-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her death is being treated as murder.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, her family said: "Elizabeth was a much-loved mum and grandma, she will be missed dearly by many."

A 30-year-old man was arrested and has now been charged in connection with her death.

He is due to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Friday.

Detective Inspector James Callander said: "Our thoughts are with Elizabeth's family and friends at this difficult time, as well as everyone in the local community affected by her death.

"We are treating this as a contained incident and there is no risk to the wider public.

"A police presence will remain in the area in the coming days, including detectives from the major investigation team. Specialist officers are providing Elizabeth's family with support."

Anyone with information which could help the police investigation is asked to call 101.
