Joshua Lloyd Roberts, from the Caernarfon area of Gwynedd, was a student at Cardiff University.

His family said they were "heartbroken" and described him as a "happy, outgoing, hardworking man" who "always had a lovely smile on his face".

North Wales Police said a 19-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision and failing to report a collision.

The man has since been released on bail as police continue their enquiries.

Joshua's family said he was "devoted to all his family and would give anyone his time".

He was a "passionate football fan and enjoyed supporting bother Everton and his hometown of Caernarfon".

A football player himself, he was a "valued" team member of Bontnewydd Football Club and Cardiff University Gym Society.

Bontnewydd FC paid tribute to Mr Roberts at the weekend and described him as "a fine footballer, but more importantly a fine young man, respectful and happy to help anyone".

He "enjoyed travelling and enjoyed many holidays abroad", his family said.

He was in his second year at Cardiff studying a degree in Sports Performance Analysis.

North Wales Police were called at 11.06pm on Friday 2 June to reports that a man had been discovered on Ffordd Waunfawr, Caeathro.

The emergency services attended but the force said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inspector Iwan Roberts from North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit said the victim's family is being supported by specialist officers.

"Our heartfelt condolences remain with Joshua's family at this incredibly difficult time," he said.

Officers are urging anyone who may have been travelling in the area at around or shortly before 11pm on 2 June to get in touch.

They are also appealing for any dashcam footage as they continue to explore "several lines of enquiry".
