Leeds sack manager Javi Gracia and replace him with 'Big' Sam Allardyce

May 02, 2023

Leeds United have hired Sam Allardyce as their new manager after sacking Javi Gracia.

In a statement, the club said: "We can confirm Javi Gracia will leave the club, with our remaining four games overseen by experienced head coach Sam Allardyce.

"We thank Javi and his team for their efforts under difficult circumstances."

Leeds have taken action as they face a fight for Premier League survival with only four games left in the season.

They are languishing 17th in the table, with only goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone.

Gracia has been sacked as manager after just two months in charge, with Allardyce - who has been out of work since being relegated with West Brom in 2021 - replacing him.

It is Allardyce's ninth Premier League club, having previously managed West Brom, Everton, Crystal Palace, Sunderland, West Ham United, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers.

Allardyce was also England manager for just one game in 2016 before leaving the role following a newspaper investigation, which claimed he offered advice on how to "get around" rules on player transfers.

His first game in charge of the club will be Saturday's Premier League away trip at Manchester City.
