Bodmin: Michael Allen named by police as man who died after group of people were stabbed

A man who died after a group of people were stabbed in Bodmin, Cornwall, has been named.

Michael Allen, 36, from Bodmin, died after officers were called to the area of Victoria Square on Castle Canyke Road, at 3.15am on Sunday following a report of a serious altercation.

Police were told that someone was in possession of a knife and multiple people had sustained suspected stab wounds.

A 24-year-old man from Bodmin was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police have today been given an extension by magistrates to allow extra time to detain the suspect.

Seven other men and women were injured and were taken to hospital; five have since been released with two people remaining in hospital as they recover from surgery following the attack, police said.

Mr Allen's family have released a picture and a tribute.

They said: "Mike was simply much-loved son, brother, grandson, and uncle who loved his dogs.

"His family would like to respectfully request privacy at this time".

A tribute site has been set up at Bodmin Rugby Club, where people can gather to remember the victim.

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police will be there to help support the local community.

The force continues to appeal to the public for information as the investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson from the force's major crime investigation team said: "Our investigation continues into this matter, and we continue to ask the public for their help."
