April 21, 2023

A man who was struck by a car in Cardiff in January has died of his injuries over three months later.

Philip Jones, 74, from Rumney in Cardiff passed away on 11 April at the University Hospital of Wales.

The collision happened on Llanedeyrn Drive in the Maelfa area of the city on 6 January.

He had experienced a "traumatic brain injury" and spent three and a half months at the hospital's Neurology Department.

Philip's family described him as a "larger than life character" as they paid tribute to him.

He was "well known in his community for his sense of humour, love of a chat but ultimately, his willingness to help anyone with anything they needed," his family added.

"No words can express how heartbroken we all are."

South Wales Police are continuing to investigate the collision and are appealing for witnesses.

They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have dashcam footage or those who may have seen the manner in which the grey Ford Fiesta was being driven before the incident.
