Peter Maher killed Jeanna Maher, 51, at their home in Drumchapel, Glasgow, in September 2018.

Maher, 61, was this week found guilty of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Lord Mulholland ordered Maher to spend at least 24 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.

Following the case, Detective Superintendent Scott McCallum, from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, said: "Jeanna was a much loved mother to her three sons and her extended family.

"She was an incredibly popular member of the community, with many friends.

"It has been a very difficult time for all of them, and although [the] verdict won't change what happened, I hope this outcome will help bring Jeanna's family some closure."

DSI McCallum said it was a "brutal attack" on a woman who "should have been safe in her own home".

He added: "Domestic crime, in all its forms, remains one of Police Scotland's top priorities.
