The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said the boa constrictors were discovered by a member of the public.

They were found next to bags of rubbish at a flying-tip spot and were lying close together, the charity said.

"We are unsure of the cause of death for these reptiles, but the circumstances they were found in are very concerning," the Scottish SPCA added.

"We are keen to ascertain what happened to these snakes and how they came to be there."

The snakes were discovered near Carbeth Loch in Blanefield, Glasgow.

Boa constrictors are non-venomous snakes that are typically found in tropical Central and South America.

They are powerful hunters and wear some of the most distinctive markings of all reptiles, according to National Geographic.

The Scottish SPCA have urged anyone with information about the snakes to contact the charity.
