In an emotional social media post, Lucy Edwards said: "I should not be waking up this morning on New Year's Day without you."

It comes after her sister, Elle, 26, was shot dead on Christmas Eve while at a pub in Wallasey Village, on the Wirral.

Taking to Instagram in a post featuring images and video of the pair together, Lucy said: "I miss you so much sis.

"You are and will always be my best friend, sidekick, partner in crime, soul mate and big sister.

"You are beautiful inside and out, you are the kindest person ever and you wanted nothing but the best for me.

"I miss everything about you, especially our daily catch-ups, our long drives."

She added: "I should not be waking up this morning on New Year's Day without you, we should be dancing and singing this morning whilst we got ready to go out.

"We always said 2019 was our best year, but we were so convinced 2023 was going to be the year to top it…

"You are supposed to be finally living the life you have dreamed of, you had so many plans, hopes and dreams, we had so many plans and it breaks my heart that it has all been taken away.

"I love you so so much Ell, fly high bbyy."

Elle, who worked as a beautician, was attacked on Christmas Eve while at the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey Village on the Wirral.

Detectives she was not believed to have been the intended target of the shooting which happened shortly before midnight.

Following her death, a 30-year-old man from Tranmere detained on suspicion of murder and attempted murder has been recalled to prison on licence.

A woman, 19, from Rock Ferry who was arrested last month on suspicion of conspiracy to murder has been bailed.

A 31-year-old man was also arrested last week on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Elle's family previously paid tribute to her in a statement released through Merseyside Police.

In the statement, they said: "She loved life and had so many amazing plans for the future. She was only just getting started.

"Christmas and our family will never be the same again without her. She was the glue that held this big family together."

Police said last week that they were continuing the search for the gun used in the shooting.

Deputy Chief Constable Ian Critchley said police "had received some tremendous intelligence and community support to help us with our investigation".

He vowed that officers "will not rest" until they get justice for Ms Edwards' family.
