Robber threatened to stab 11-year-old girl before stealing her electric scooter

December 16, 2022

A robber who threatened to stab an 11-year-old girl before stealing her electric scooter in Islington has been jailed.

Adam McGeady, 32, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison on Friday 9 December at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

McGeady carried out the "terrifying" robbery on 24 September 2020 at around 6:15pm.

Footage shows the girl riding an electric scooter in Parkfield Street when she was then approached by McGeady on a bike. He threatened to stab her before taking the scooter and riding off.

The victim was not injured, but she was shaken after the incident, police said in a statement.

Officers were called and police began trying to locate the suspect using CCTV footage from the location and the surrounding area.

After being caught on camera, officers shared an image of McGeady on a Metropolitan police database used by officers to identify wanted people.

The suspect was later recognised and arrested in January 2022 before being charged with robbery.

"This would have been a terrifying ordeal for a victim of any age, but it was particularly upsetting for a child. I would like to praise her for the bravery she has shown throughout our investigation," Detective Constable Richard Roberts, from the local policing team in Islington said.

He added: "McGeady is clearly a dangerous offender and I am pleased that our investigation has resulted in him receiving a custodial sentence. I hope this sends a clear message that we will not tolerate such appalling behaviour on the streets of Islington".

McGeady pleaded guilty to robbery before he was sentenced.
