Lorry spills McVitie's biscuits over Derbyshire road

April 05, 2022

Recovery services were left clearing up thousands of biscuits after a lorry carrying a large delivery of McVitie's shed its load in Derbyshire.

The Digestives, Ginger Nuts, and Bourbons were spread across Ilkeston Road, in Sandiacre, after falling out of boxes being stored inside the lorry.

Hundreds of packets of the sweet streets, cardboard boxes, and lots of biscuit crumbs caused slight delays for drivers on Monday night.

On Twitter, Erewash Response wrote: "Please bear with us this evening whilst we try and 'digest' this issue.

"A lorry load of McVities finest have decided to abandon ship causing a slight obstruction!"

Fortunately, people saw the funny side to the incident, with many responding to the tweet with biscuit puns and asking police if they needed help with the clear-up.

One social media user wrote: "Put the kettle on, we're on our way."

Another person said: "Crumbs that looks bad! I hear traffic is being diverted on to the party ring road."

"McSlippies I love those biscuits especially if they fell off the back of a lorry," added another.

A video of recovery trucks at the scene was shared about two hours later, with Erewash Response writing: "These experts will have it sorted in no time."
