Eleven people stabbed in random knife attacks across Albuquerque by suspect on BMX

February 14, 2022

Eleven people have been stabbed in a series of "random" attacks in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The suspect, who has since been taken into custody, was travelling on a BMX bike with a large knife during the spree, KRQE reported, citing police.

Seven crime scenes are being investigated across the city.

The first attack was at about 11am on Sunday near Sister - a bar at Central Avenue and 4th Street.

A short time later another stabbing was reported at Central Avenue and Harvard Drive.

The third incident happened at around 1pm in front of an apartment block.

The fourth victim was stabbed in the neck at Central Avenue and Pennsylvania Street, with further attacks near a McDonald's restaurant in the area.

The last victim was wounded just outside a restaurant at Wyoming Boulevard and Domingo Road, where they had been eating with their family.

The victims were reportedly critically wounded but all are currently stable in hospital.

Gilbert Gallegos, from the Albuquerque police department, said the attacks "appear to be random".

"There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason at this point," he added.

Mr Gallegos told KRQE the suspect was apprehended without any use of force.
