The Russian defence ministry has released the video after four of its Bear aircraft were "intercepted and escorted" away from the UK by fighter jets that were scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland.

The Russian aircraft types were two Tu-95 Bear H and two Tu-142 Bear F.

It comes as RAF Typhoon fighters were launched against aircraft "approaching the UK area of interest" for the second day in a row on Thursday.

The footage from Wednesday shows a Russian aircraft taking off from a base in the Vologda region before heading towards the UK.

Video from inside the cockpit of one of the bombers then shows a pilot calmly flying the plane.

The camera then shows an RAF fighter jet flying to the left of the aircraft to escort it away from the UK.

A second Typhoon fighter jet is then seen flying to the right of the Russian aircraft.

The Russian defence ministry has said its planes were flying in strict accordance with the international regulations over neutral waters.

The RAF said in a statement: "Our Typhoon fighters escorted the Russian aircraft out of the UK's area of interest. At no time did the Russian bombers enter UK sovereign airspace."

On Thursday, RAF jets were scrambled from Lossiemouth once again and were joined by a Voyager air-to-air missile refuelling tanker.

According to Reuters, Russian "strategic bombers" were in the air above neutral waters in the northeast Atlantic.

The RAF said it "routinely" intercepts, identifies and escorts Russian aircraft that "transit international airspace within the UK's area of interest".

An area of interest includes international airspace for which a nation holds some responsibility, such as air traffic control services.
