A family whose child was abused by a former headteacher jailed last month is to sue the council.
Lawyers representing the family have said they are taking legal action against Gwynedd Council over their handling of the case.
Neil Foden was sentenced to 17 years in prison last month for child sex offences against four girls.
He had been headteacher of Ysgol Friars school in Bangor since 1997 and was arrested at his workplace for the offences.
The court heard he had abused the girls, who cannot be named, over a period of four years.
Sentencing him at Mold Crown Court in North Wales last month, Judge Rowlands described Foden as a man "looked up to by many" but who had "managed to hide a dreadful secret".
He said the 66-year-old took advantage of young girls "repeatedly" in order to satisfy his "depraved, sexual needs".
Solicitor Katherine Yates, who is representing the victim and her family in the civil lawsuit against the local authority, said the case "raised a lot of questions".
"[Foden] started working at Ysgol Friars school over 30 years ago, so his reign of abuse could be over a much longer period than we initially thought," she said.
Ms Yates said her firm is offering to support anyone who suffered abuse by Foden.
A spokesperson for Gwynedd Council said its thoughts were with the victims and their families.
"We commend and admire the remarkable courage and resilience they have displayed by coming forward and throughout the criminal trial," they said.
The council confirmed work had begun on a children's practice review, led by an independent chair "to identify what lessons are to be learned".

The spokesperson said the local authority was "cooperating fully" with the review and would "respond immediately" to any recommendations highlighted by it.
"Until all this independent review has been completed, it would not be appropriate for Cyngor Gwynedd to comment further," the spokesperson added.
