A scheme to improve the roads along two streets in Hornsea will soon get underway.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council will invest £355,000 to upgrade the road surface along Southgate and Rolston Road.
The work is due to start on Monday 11 September and take around six weeks to complete.
As part of the scheme, the full length of Southgate will be resurfaced, with the exception of the Southgate (Tesco) roundabout.
Rolston Road roundabout will also be resurfaced, and patch repairs will be carried out along Rolston Road.
To start the scheme, preparation work will be carried out during the daytime under temporary traffic lights between 9.30am and 3.30pm for the first week.
Full resurfacing will follow and will be carried out during the evenings between 6pm and 11pm, in order to avoid any major disruption to local businesses and residents.
This has also been timed not to conflict with work being carried out at the Southgate (Tesco) roundabout by Northern Gas Networks.
Daytime footpath repairs will also be carried out along Southgate.
Temporary road closures in the evening will be needed while the resurfacing is being carried out for the safety of road users, pedestrians and the workforce. These will only be in place during evening work, and roads will reopen during the day.
During the evening closures only, a signed diversion route will be in place, via Trinity Road, South Promenade, Sands Lane, New Road and Newbegin.
The Tesco store will remain open and will be accessible via the diversion route.
Access for emergency vehicles will be permitted at all times.
During the evening resurfacing work, there will be limited access to cul-de-sacs off Southgate and residents are being asked to please limit their journeys at those times to avoid any delays. These will reopen during the day.
Motorists are also kindly asked not to leave their cars parked on the roadside during the resurfacing.
The work will be carried out by council contractors Britcon (UK) Ltd.
Councillor Paul West, the council’s portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “These works are necessary in order to improve the road surface here as it is showing signs of wear and tear and needs an upgrade.
“We want to thank residents and drivers in advance for their patience while the work is ongoing, but they will see a big improvement when it’s complete.”
