June 08, 2023

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has issued an update after undergoing surgery as part of her cancer treatment.

The 32-year-old dancer from Caerphilly, South Wales, said "surgery went well" on Instagram.

Ms Dowden, who got married to her partner Ben Jones last year, recently announced she had been diagnosed with cancer.

"Big thanks to my two surgeons and nurses who have been so utterly amazing and looking after me," she said.

"Very sore but focusing on the positives, they said the surgery went well.

"Thanks for all the support and messages."

Before the surgery, Ms Dowden posted a picture of herself from her hospital bed with the caption "Ready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor."

Amy Dowden has been a familiar face on Strictly Come Dancing since she first joined the show as a professional dancer in 2017.

In that time she has partnered celebrities including comedian Brian Conley, actor Danny John-Jules and McFly's Tom Fletcher.

The latter replied to her Instagram post and said: "Sending you all the love today. Us Fletchers are right behind you".

Fellow professional dancers also wished Ms Dowden well ahead of the surgery, including Nadiya Bychkova and Dianne Buswell who joined the show at the same time.
