The Welsh comedian, known for appearances on series such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks, announced he had head and neck cancer last year.

Gilbert said in February that he was "coming back" to his former self and described his treatment at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff as "faultless".

He posted a video on social media after his gig at Swansea Arena on Friday.

"It is wonderful being back doing stand-up again for the first time in a year. I'm feeling good," he told fans.

"Lovely to be here, lovely to be back in Swansea, lovely to be alive, lovely to be back on tour".

Swansea Arena wrote in a Tweet after his performance: "We're all so chuffed you're back to doing what you do best."

Other locations included as part of Rhod Gilbert's ongoing tour, The Book of John, include Bath, Yeovil and Barnstaple.

On 1 October, Gilbert will be heading back to Wales for a special event at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre.

Gilbert, who is a patron of Velindre Cancer Centre, will host his third Hoof Cancer gig to raise funds for his next trek which will take place in Morocco's Atlas Mountains from 5 October.

He has previously led Velindre treks in Kilimanjaro in 2013, Patagonia in 2015, Peru in 2017, Nepal in 2019 and Cuba in 2022.

The Morocco trek will be the first led by Gilbert since his cancer diagnosis.
