Garfield bags a best actor nomination for musical tick, tick... BOOM!, while Cumberbatch gets a nod for Netflix western Power Of The Dog.

Previous winner Olivia Colman gets recognition in the best actress group for The Lost Daughter, alongside supporting actress and Irish star Jessie Buckley.

Dune, West Side Story and The Power Of The Dog - all the nominees for this year's Academy Awards

British acting royalty Dame Judi Dench is up for her supporting role in Sir Kenneth Branagh's Belfast, as is Ciaran Hinds, while the film gets a nomination in the original screenplay, best film and directing categories.

But it is Power Of The Dog, with a cast headed up by Cumberbatch, that leads the nominations with 12, with the likes of Kodi Smit-McPhee and Kirsten Dunst being up in the supporting actor categories, while Jane Campion is nominated for best director.

Belfast and The Power Of The Dog go up against an expanded best picture group, which includes climate-satire Don't Look Up, sci-fi epic Dune and tennis biopic King Richard.

CODA, Drive My Car, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley and West Side Story also feature in the group.

Elsewhere, after his BAFTA snub, Steven Spielberg get into the Oscars directing category for his remake of West Side Story, with Ariana DeBose continuing her award season success by bagging another supporting actress nomination.

However, Rachel Zegler, who was widely tipped for a best actress nomination at the age of just 20, misses out.

Dune, which has the most BAFTA nominations this year, also continues its surprise run of fortune with the Academy, getting a number of nominations at this year's Oscars, largely in the technical categories.

Will Smith (King Richard) Javier Bardem (Being The Ricardos), Kristen Stewart (Spencer) and Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers) are also among the big names in the hunt for acting Oscars this year.

Spider-Man and Bond only make a modest appearance - despite their buzz and box office success

But what of the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home and James Bond: No Time To Die, which were tipped to land in the newly-expanded best picture category?

There had been rumours of a concerted effort by Sony and Marvel to get Spider-Man into the best picture category this year, alongside an attempt to get its star, Tom Holland, to host the glitzy bash.

It is fast approaching becoming the third highest grossing film in the US ever, and shows signs of getting even higher - but its Oscars buzz wasn't enough, with the superhero flick only bagging one nomination for visual effects.

Bond meanwhile only attracted three nominations - original song (Billie Eilish's No Time To Die), sound and visual effects.

What else is up for Oscars?

Disney once again dominates the animated film category with three of its movies battling it out - Encanto, Luca and Raya And The Last Dragon.

And Encanto song Dos Oruguitas could also give song-writing supremo Lin-Manuel Miranda his first Oscar, which would make him the newest entrant into the elusive group of EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winners.

In visual effects, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings go up against fellow Marvel film Spider-Man, as well as Ryan Reynolds movie Free Guy, while 101 Dalmatians prequel Cruella gets nods in the hair and make-up and costume design categories.

Period-musical Cyrano, which stars Peter Dinklage, CODA, which has a largely deaf cast, and televangelist biopic The Eyes Of Tammy Faye also make a few appearances in the nominations.
