By-elections will take place in East Wolds and Coastal Ward and South East Holderness Ward on Thursday 4 July.

The by-election is being held following the resignation of two councillors. Residents in these wards can vote for their local councillor at the same time as voting in the Parliamentary Election.

The Statement of Persons Nominated has been published, listing the people who are standing to be councillors in these two Wards.

Residents in these two Wards will receive two poll cards – a white one for Parliamentary Elections and a salmon one for the local Ward election.

The key dates for the by-elections follow the same key dates for Parliamentary Elections:

  • Deadline to register to vote: 5pm Tuesday 18 June
To register to vote online it takes five minutes; you need to be 18 and you need your National Insurance Number.
If you’ve moved house or changed your name you need to register to vote again.

  • Deadline for new postal applications, and changes to existing postal and proxy votes: 5pm Wednesday 19 June
You can choose to vote in person at a polling station, by post, or by proxy.
You can apply online to vote by post or proxy (someone else can vote on your behalf).

  • Deadline for new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxy): 5pm Wednesday 26 June
If after 5pm on Wednesday 26 June you are unable to vote in person due to a medical emergency, work reasons or your form of ID has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed, you can apply to vote by proxy. Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Thursday 5 July.

  • Deadline to apply for free voter ID: 5pm on Wednesday 26 June
Residents need to bring photo ID when voting – a passport, driving licence, blue badge and an older person’s bus pass are all accepted forms of photo ID.
If you don’t have photo ID, you can apply for free voter ID.

  • First date to apply for a replacement for a lost postal vote: Friday 28 June

  • Polling day: Thursday 4 July, polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm
Polling stations are listed on polling cards, though voters won’t need their polling card to vote.
