With celebrations taking place from 10 February to mark the Lunar New Year, the year of the Dragon, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is giving advice for communities across the region to celebrate safely.
“Consider using LED candles instead of wax candles, not only are they much safer, but they also save you having to relight them after leaving the room. Keep an eye on any cooking and take pans off the heat if you need to leave them unattended.
“We strongly discourage using flying (sky) lanterns as part of your celebrations, they pose a significant fire risk and can easily destroy wildlife habitats and properties. If you plan to use fireworks, always follow the instructions carefully and never go back to a lit firework, even if it has not gone off as it could still explode.”
