Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) is seeking a chairperson for its new Local Visitor Economy Partnership Advisory Board, who will play a pivotal role in strengthening the region's thriving visitor economy.
VHEY, a collaboration between East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull City Council, and the private sector, has supported the growth of the visitor economy over the past 20 years. The new chairperson will oversee the strategic vision and development of tourism in the region.
In March last year, VHEY became one of VisitEngland's first nationally accredited Local Visitor Economy Partnerships (LVEPs).
Both councils' cabinets formally approved the establishment of the VHEY LVEP in December, committing existing tourism services resources and budget to help deliver a five-year destination management plan for 2024-29.
The LVEP aims to drive sustainable growth in the local visitor economy, working closely with VisitEngland, local stakeholders, private sector businesses and relevant partners.
It will be overseen by a joint public and private sector industry-led advisory board, and the new chairperson will work closely with local authorities, businesses and key stakeholders to promote and enhance the region's visitor economy.
Cllr Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: "The successful candidate will play a crucial role in steering Hull and East Yorkshire towards sustainable visitor economy development through collaborative efforts with key stakeholders.
"The chairperson will be instrumental in fostering innovation and partnerships that drive our region's economic growth and enhance its appeal as a premier league destination."
Cllr Rob Pritchard, Hull City Council's portfolio holder for culture and leisure, emphasised the importance of the role, stating: "This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our region's visitor economy. The LVEP reflects the region's commitment to aligning with national standards. Both local authorities aim to ensure the new chairperson represent the diversity of the destination and businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire, encouraging applicants from various backgrounds.
