East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to invest £178,000 to upgrade roads on a section of Main Street, Patrington, and Patrington Road, Sunk Island.

The scheme is due to start on Monday 12 June and is expected to take three weeks to complete, with work being carried out on weekdays.

The work will include road edge strengthening, kerbing and drainage work between Cherry Tree House and Outstay Road.

The scheme will be carried out under phased road closures to minimise disruption to traffic and for the safety of the workforce.

A signed diversion for through-traffic will be put in place via Sunk Island Road, A1033 New Road, A1033 Patrington Road, A1033 Winestead Lane, A1033 Station Road, Humber Lane, Haven Road, and Return.

A second phase of improvements is planned to take place in early October, once the harvest season is finished.

This will involve the resurfacing of the roads between Outstray Road and Brick Road, including the junctions to Channel Road and Outstray Road.

This second phase is expected to will take two weeks to complete.

The work will be carried out by the council’s in-house road maintenance team, and the scheme is part of the council’s programme of planned road maintenance works.

All work planned is weather permitting.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “We’ve tried to minimise disruption as much as we can and we’d like to thank people living in this area and motorists for their patience while we carry out this work.

“These improvements are much-needed and people will notice the difference once they’re completed.”
