Your guide to Mental Health services in the East Riding

Friday, 10 October is World Mental Health Day.

This year’s global theme is access to services – mental health in catastrophes and emergencies.

The theme highlights the importance of people being able to protect their mental health whatever they’re going through, because everyone deserves good mental health.

What we see and hear in the news and online can be overwhelming and even if you’re not directly affected by events, abroad or in the UK, it can still feel like a lot at times. It is okay to ask for help, no matter what you, or anyone else is going through.

Read the Mental Health Foundation’s advice poster on how to manage feelings of overwhelm.

Here in East Riding, together with community and health partners, including Hull and East Yorkshire Mind (HEY Mind) East Riding of Yorkshire Council wants to help residents talk about mental health and support people to find the advice they need – everything from day-to-day wellbeing to crisis support.

If you or someone you know needs emotional wellbeing or mental health support or just wants to know more about local and national organisations and services, check out our East Riding Health & Wellbeing website pages for support and signposting information – and take our healthy mind quiz:

The below services offer confidential support from trained volunteers. You can talk about anything that is troubling you, no matter how difficult:

Call 116 123 to talk to Samaritans, or email: jo@samaritans.org for a reply within 24 hours.

Text “SHOUT” to 85258 to contact the Shout Crisis Text Line, or text “YM” if you are under the age of 19.

If someone is under 19, they can also call 0800 1111 to talk to Childline. This number will not appear on your phone bill.

If you need help for an urgent mental health crisis or emergency, you should get immediate expert advice and assessment. Contact NHS 111 by phone or online and select the mental health option.
